Wherever Dreams Dwell
2022
A story of escape, protection, ritual, and imagination, which can turn anywhere into a home for one night.
A teenager’s collection of special friends come to life, looking into the dark corners of her past. The story is told within the audience and brought to life by their imaginations.
The story is inspired by real life experiences of family breakdowns and sudden homelessness, as well as verbatim interviews gathered from the public who wish to share their stories.
It focuses on a teenager having to find a safe place to sleep.
It’s a celebration of the power of imagination to turn any random space into a home. We believe in the power of imagination to help us through difficult times.
Children live in a world of imagination but as adults we lose our sense of play and wonder. This story is a celebration of the joy we can still find in playing with imaginary friends. At a societal level, the story responds to the increasing displacement of people, long journeys to find safety and increasing rates of homelessness in our communities.
The title is from Dodinsky, author of the NY Times bestseller In the Garden of Thoughts: I believe wherever dreams dwell, the heart calls it home. So may you untangle yourself from the twist of melancholy and let your thoughts carry you back to the birthplace of your truth.
